School Accounting

School accounting software that auditors can work with

Skoo keeps double entry books for a school: a chart of accounts you can import from your own Excel file, grouped financial statements, printable vouchers, fixed assets with depreciation, bank reconciliation and a year end close.

Start from your own chart of accounts

Import the chart your accountant already uses from an Excel file. The first row needs the headings Code, Name and Type, and a Group column if you use groups. Skoo checks the file first and lists every row that has a problem. Rows that are fine can be imported, and a group you do not have yet is created.

Set the financial year to match your audit period, such as January to December.

Statements and vouchers

  • Balance sheet and income and expenditure, grouped by account group.
  • Receipts and payments, with a comparison to last year.
  • Printable vouchers for entries.
  • An audit pack that gathers the reports an auditor asks for.

Assets, bank and year end

  • Fixed asset register with depreciation.
  • Bank reconciliation against your statement.
  • Year end close, so the new year starts from the right balances.

Linked to fees and payroll

Fee payments and salaries post to the ledger through the accounts you connect in Account Settings, so you do not enter the same thing twice. Fee income is booked when cash is received.

Financial statements are grouped under account headings, with tabs for the chart of accounts, bank reconciliation, fixed assets and year end close.

Good to know: what it does not do

  • Fee income is recorded when cash is received. An accrual basis, where income is booked when fees are billed, is not built yet.
  • The chart import does not fix files for you. A title row above the headings, or a missing account type, has to be corrected in the file first.
  • Cash flow statement and restricted fund accounting are not built yet.
  • Skoo does not replace your auditor. It prepares the reports they ask for.

Questions, answered.

Can I import my existing chart of accounts?

Yes. Upload an Excel file whose first row has the headings Code, Name and Type, with Group if you use groups. Skoo shows the rows with problems and imports the rest.

Does it support a January to December financial year?

Yes. The financial year start is a setting.

Does it do bank reconciliation?

Yes. Match the bank statement lines to ledger entries.

Which plans include accounting?

The pricing page lists the modules in each plan, and it is always the current answer.
